Realtime in-store analytics using iBeacons

What if you could A/B-test your store setups as easy as testing a website? This is what set of a research into beacon technology and it’s value for retail. Current market solutions are either expensive to implement at scale, aren’t suitable for all type of stores and don’t use opt-in methods.

The research traject led to a full store implementation, pilot and project validation with over 60 beacons for analyzing hot and cold spots, visitor behavior overall store usage. The service makes A/B-testing in retail easy and enables full integration with existing apps creating endless possibilities for integrating off- and online.

Find My Bike. Finding your bicycle using beacons

FindMyBike

FindMyBike

What if you could never forget where you parked your bike (or car) again? This is what’s FindMyBike is all about. Small low cost beacons are added to a bycicle, these connect to the FindMyBike app and this will always remember you where you left your bike.

This project was a personal and typical Dutch itch. Traveling to Amsterdam by car and train – using different train stations – I always forgot at what station I left my bike after not using it for several days or weeks. This app helps you remember not only where you put your bicycle but also locate it using a changing color scheme.

It’s also great for cars. We all remember that time we forgot where we parked our car.

The lessons learned from this beacon project led to this case where we measure foot traffic in stores. Never underestimate side-projects.

Hago Zorg app

Hago Zorg

Hago Zorg is a mobile platform that gives hospitals real-time insight in the hygenic status of a bed. It’s an extention to the cleaning services they provide. Better service by better insights.

Over 80.000 hospital beds are cleaned in a large hospital every year. Hospitals need insights for quality control and safety. Hago Zorg extended the service with a digital component using NFC chips and smartphones. This contributed to Hago Zorg being the #1 supplier to (6 out of 8) University Hospitals in the Netherlands.

Using iBeacons to connect things to people

Yesterday we received Gimbal proximity beacons. These beacons – or iBeacons as Apple calls the technology – have a small battery and submit a low energy bluetooth signal. This signal can be used within apps to detect if someone (a smartphone) is close (proximity) to a beacon. The app can trigger actions based on the signal.

Currently these beacons are used at the SXSW conference to connect the audience during a presentation. You can also find them being used in Apple stores and at stadiums.

The most exciting part is that it connects you to objects and places. And it’s opt in. Beacons can only be reached if you use a pre-designed app. You won’t be a walking target for unwanted messages.
